Ignatian prayer

An Ignatian
Prayer....

Lord, teach me to be
generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve,
to give and not to count
the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek
rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do
your will.

This is something I found that I have enjoyed reflecting on lately:

The Paradoxical Commanments-by Dr. Kent M. Keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self centered-Love them anywyay.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives-do good anyway.
If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies-succeed anyway.
The good you today will be forgotten tomorrow-do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable-be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds-think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs-fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend a few years building may be destroyed overnight-
build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them-help them anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth-give the world the best you have anyway.

  1. What a great reminder of who we are called to be - everyday! Not easy but I believe it's the only way we truly make a difference in the world - even if no one seems to notice... especially if no one seems to notice because that is when WE are changed most! I like to use a shorter version: Life is hard, Life isn't fair, but God is Good!

  2. Thanks Janet, you were always good with short but to the point sayings. I appreciate your response.
